🏉 Last week, Bedford yr8 boys rugby team kicked off their North West Counties group stage with a home fixture vs St’s Peter and Paul, Widnes. In cold, but clear conditions Bedford started well, playing some really attractive and expansive rugby. In addition to the attacking prowess, Bedfords strong defence limited the Widnes’ sides progress and forced handling errors inside their half. At half time, Bedford had a strong lead and were looking really good in all areas. The second half continued with further attacking threat from Bedford and we ran out eventual winners 40-8. A great team performance from all the squad. Opposition coaches MOTM was Jacob G, who organised well from scrum half, and Bedfords MOTM was L. Byrchall, a.k.a. ‘Birchy’, whose ferocious tackling set the standard in defence. Jacob H. converting most of the Bedford tries. Debuts for Fred C-W, Bobby C. and Denzel M completed a great day. Next up is a visit to Birchwood Community High School on Tuesday 27th January for our second match. Well done boys. 👏
