David Whitehead, Chair of Governors, National Leader of Governance (NLG)

It is my privilege to be the current Chair of Governors. I have been a governor since 2003, I was born and raised in Leigh but now live in Westhoughton. All my 3 sons have been students at Bedford High School. My aim and priority as a school governor, is to ensure this school delivers the best education for all of our students, providing them with the best tools in either further education or the competitive world of work.

Paul McCaffrey, Headteacher

I am proud to be the Headteacher of Bedford High School. I have served for many years at this fantastic school and this experience has provided me with a strong understanding of the great things our students can achieve and become.

Kathryn Freeman, Co-opted Governor

Victoria Jackson, Co-opted Governor

I am a member of the Institute for Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and have worked within the Financial Services industry as an Auditor for the last eight years for a big four firm. I have traveled internationally to Australia and New Zealand and I am currently on secondment to a Learning and Development function within my firm. My hobbies include yoga, cooking and traveling.

Channon Woodward, Parent Governor

I am an IT project manager with over 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry; working for Europe’s largest energy company. I am responsible for defining strategies, investment and delivering mobile app solutions to support our business partners, customers and retailers in over 40 countries around the globe. I was appointed to the board of governors in 2016 and sit on the Assets and Standards committees.

Neil Roberts, Staff Governor

I have been the Teaching and Learning Leader for Science at Bedford High School for the last 9 years with previous experience in leading roles at 3 other secondary schools over the last 23 years. Prior to this I trained as a Chartered Accountant for two years. In my spare time I volunteer for a charitable organisation who run a swimming pool in Tyldesley, performing the role of lifeguard.

Rebecca Ramsden, Co-opted Governor

I have worked at Bedford High School since 2005 and have held a number of positions of responsibility. I am currently Director of Learning for Personal Development and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. As part of my role currently, I am responsible for whole school CEIAG, SMSC and student voice and parental engagement

Lynn Hayes, Co-opted Governor

I am the manager of The Green Grass Community hub in Atherton. I came to Bedford with the Hesketh Fletcher pupils in 2011. I am very proud to be on the governing body. My father, brother, sister, myself, my daughter and granddaughter all attended Bedford High School.

Charles Rigby

Cllr Charles Rigby, LA Governor

Councillor Charles Rigby LA Governor, I have been married for forty years and have two daughters. I have served on the governing body since 1997, I have recently retired from Bolton Council where I was employed as a joiner and window surveyor for the past 25 years. As a community Champion I have strong links with the residents and all local schools, I was the chair of governors at Higher Folds County Primary for a number of years and was responsible for the amalgamation of the two primary schools that serve the estate. My hobby fishing helps to fill my spare time.

Joanna Coop

I am a teaching Deputy Head at one of Bedford’s feeder primary schools, Leigh St. Mary’s CE Primary School. I have been a teacher for 12 years and a safeguarding lead for 3 years. I am now a safeguarding governor at Bedford High School. I am proud to be able to bring my professional expertise to a parent governor role.

Amber Marshall

I have been a Chartered Accountant for over 20 years and have worked mainly in public transport. Being a parent makes me want to help Bedford to deliver the best education possible with the resources available, and provide a happy, safe environment for the children to learn. They grow up so fast, I will help in any way I can to give the children the best possible chance for their future.
